Marcella's Lasagneria, nestled in the vibrant Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco, offers an authentic Italian dining experience that truly celebrates the art of pasta in its many delightful forms. Specializing in Italian cuisine with a strong emphasis on lasagna, this family-friendly restaurant and pasta shop is a haven for both traditionalists and adventurous eaters seeking hearty, soul-satisfying meals.
Step inside Marcella's and you'll immediately feel the warmth of a cozy yet lively atmosphere, perfectly suited for casual family dinners, intimate gatherings, or even a quick yet indulgent lunch. The inviting aroma of fresh herbs, slow-simmered ragù, and baking cheeses mingles with the hum of satisfied guests, creating an experience that is as comforting as a home-cooked meal and as vibrant as San Francisco’s culinary scene.
What truly sets Marcella's apart is its exquisite range of lasagnas—each one a masterclass in flavor and texture. The Abruzzo Lasagna is a standout, praised by many guests for its perfectly layered richness with a golden, slightly crusted exterior that adds a delightful bite, reminiscent of a well-crafted croissant or baklava in its intricate layering. Similarly, the Lasagna Bolognese offers a robust, meaty depth, balancing tangy tomato sauce and creamy béchamel, while the Mushroom Lasagna (V) and Verdure Lasagna provide satisfying options for vegetarians, bursting with fresh, earthy flavors.
Beyond lasagna, the menu unfolds like a love letter to Italian pasta traditions. Fresh options such as the Spaghetti Alle Vongole showcase sweet, tender clams sautéed in a fragrant white wine and olive oil sauce, while the indulgent Spaghetti Carbonara combines smoked pancetta and local champignon mushrooms with a silky cream finish and a sprinkle of Parmigiano. The Bucatini Pasta Special and Ravioli Al Tartufo are also not to be missed, tempting diners with their rich, complex sauces and perfect textures.
For those who prefer lighter fare or a touch of freshness alongside their pasta, Marcella's offers a variety of beautifully composed salads. The Mediterranean House Salad, generously topped with grilled chicken breast, feta cheese, kalamata olives, and tossed with a tangy balsamic vinaigrette, perfectly balances the heartiness of the main dishes. Paninis like the Tuscan and Massimo offer handheld indulgence with housemade ciabatta, fresh mozzarella di bufala, and flavorful aiolis that leave you craving another bite.
Marcella's is also a beloved choice for catering, with many customers praising their generous portions, convenient preparation instructions, and consistently delicious offerings. The glowing testimonials from locals only add to the welcoming vibe: regulars laud the “best lasagna in San Francisco,” applauding both the generous fullness of each meal and the friendly, experienced service led by Kimberly and her team.
While the restaurant can get busy and popular—which is a true testament to its quality—it’s well worth planning ahead to indulge in these lovingly crafted dishes. Whether it’s a casual weekday lunch or a celebratory family dinner, Marcella’s Lasagneria invites you to savor Italian tradition with every bite, filling your senses and your heart.
For a genuine taste of Italy in the Bay Area, Marcella's delivers culinary passion and hospitality in generous portions that leave you both satisfied and eager to return.

This is my favorite Italian Food in the city. My buddy Gianfranco and his family owned Marcella's for years. When the business changed ownership, it was demanded that the team remains, and that's exactly what happened. Kimberly and her team provide great food/service at a reasonable price. YOU WILL BE FULL. Butternut Squash and Abruzzo lasagne are the best.
Easily the best lasagna I've had, and I'm not a huge lasagna guy. Really flavorful and cooked well, and lots of variety and options. The pasta is also great. It does get really, really busy so it can be hard to get a table and they usually sell out early. Also a little pricey for the portion sizes. Overall though definitely worth checking out.
OMG! Great lasagne! If you’re looking for a great Italian food experience - look no further. Best lasagne I’ve ever had… that’s right, I said it! This place is popular, but they keep up with the crowd. We had no wait. The staff was fun and friendly and all the food was fantastic! It’s a cute spot at 22nd Street and Tennessee. Go check it out.
The best lasagna in SF! We had the Abruzzo lasagna and Spaghetti alle vongole. The lasagna was very delicious. It had the right doneness outside which made it a bit crusty. My husband says the lasagna reminded him of a perfectly layered croissant or baklava! The spaghetti noodle was perfectly cooked. We will get catering to go when friends visit us!
I ordered trays of lasagna bolognese, Caprese salad, and tiramisu from the catering menu. The order was ready on time and Marcela's lasagneria provided instructions for baking in my oven later in the day and for final prep of the Caprese salad at my home, with olive oil, salt, pepper, and oregano. Portions were large, with plenty of leftovers for me and my guests. All the items were delicious. Highly recommended.
I traveled half the world, and this is by far the best pasta, lasagna, and tiramisu I’ve ever had. Don’t hesitate to order anything from the menu because you will love it.
We got catering to go for a birthday party. Everyone thought it was amazing. The prosciutto melon shifted in my travel home, but it looked amazing. Also had salad, imported meats and cheeses, and grilled veggies. The two lasagnas were butternut squash and abruzzo. Some of the best I ever had. It will be one dinner to remember!
we ordered takeout online. One mushroom lasagna and one meat lasagna, and they were both really delicious. We are both big eaters, but the portion was quite generous; a bit of effort to finish it all The salads are enormous; one salad enough for two people Perfect option for a quick delicious meal at a reasonable price
